A Little About Nathan Williams Jr. & The Zydeco Big Timers

It’s that time again; time for the Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival. Memorial Day weekend 2014 welcomes a plethora of musicians to the Simi Valley as we present the best of the Cajun-Zydeco stage.

Nathan Williams Jr. is a member of a Zydeco dynasty. Lil’ Nathan is the son of band-leader Nathan of the Zydeco Cha Chas and his uncle is owner of El Sid O’s, one of Zydeco’s premier lounges. The Big Timers have recently been featured in a commercial for the Louisiana Travel and Tourism commission and the New York Times (who dubbed the band one of the most popular currently on the scene). They have repeatedly won Big Easy Awards and Best of Beat Music awards for best artist and best album; some pretty impressive feathers in their proverbial cap!

Lil’ Nathan attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he majored in music media and jazz studies, which really expanded his understanding of the zydeco form. He puts this to good use in the band’s five (almost six) albums.
