Great Cajun Cooking, You Can Do it Too!

Cajun recipes are not as complicated as many assume. Anyone can enjoy great Cajun cooking by following the recipes that stem from Louisiana, even if those recipes seem complicated at the beginning.

Beignet

Beignets are a type of French donut that is popular as a Cajun dessert. Simply mix a half cup of shortening, a half cup of sugar and a pinch of salt until it forms a creamy texture. Mix in one cup of boiling water and one cup of milk before setting the creamed mixture aside. In a separate bowl, add two packages of yeast to one-fourth cup of warm water. Add the yeast and water to the creamed mixture and add two eggs. Mix well. Add in 6 and one half cups of flour before cooling the mixture in the fridge. Fry it in small balls.

Cajun Potatoes

Bring roughly five cups of water to a boil. Add in cayenne pepper, basil leaves, onion powder, garlic powder and salt. Allow the spices to cook briefly and then add cleaned potatoes. Allow the potatoes to cook until they are soft.
