Po’boys, Blues Music, and Great Company; My Experience at the Simi Valey Cajun & Blues Music Festival

Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival: Blues Stage

Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival: Blues Stage

This past Memorial Day Weekend I spent my Sunday with my family enjoying everything the Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival had to offer.  And now I would like to share my experience with you!

Walking up to the entrance, one would hardly be able to categorize its participants; the event drew folks from all walks of life, a true display of the mosaic of characters and personalities. The young and the old and the in-between, families and young friends and couples, the festively costumed and the casually dressed, any and all had joined in to experience the good food and even better music that characterizes the Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival.

I, with my family, began on one side of the park, parading through the boutiques offering anything from festival merchandise, house-decorating estimates, frilly dresses, candles, and wind chimes while the nearby Cajun and Zydeco stage sent the upbeat and spirited melody weaving through the booths. It is only a matter of time before every attendee is forced to cave in to the rambunctious aroma of the Cajun and Creole foods, and it took even less time to entice my food-happy family. Weaving through the crowds and past the sea of lawn chairs where music lovers set up their own camps to enjoy the bands, we made our way to the food vendors. With the amount of options given to us, it took multiple laps before we settled on po’boys, roasted corn, and baked potatoes.

We then headed to the Blues stage, parked on the grass, and soaked up the sun and music as we chowed down. As a “Blues” family, we were right at home here, chatting up our neighbors, watching the musicians, and the folks brave enough to dance. Before we knew it, the sun was setting, the music ended, and it was time to head for home. But, not before grabbing one delicious funnel cake to share on our way out!

Thank you to The Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise for hosting such an entertaining and successful event, it was enjoyed by many!
