Steve Riley to Perform at Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival

This year’s two-day 24th Annual Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival in California will feature performances by Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys. This three-man band has been cranking out great music for the past 20 years.

Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys started out playing Cajun French music from the backwaters of southwest Louisiana, featuring the Cajun accordion playing of front man Steve Riley. He’s accompanied on the fiddle by Kevin Wimmer, with Sam Broussard on guitar, Kevin Dugas on drums, and Brazos Huval on bass.

The band’s third release, Trave of Time, was nominated for a Grammy in the worldwide field of traditional folk music. Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys were nominated again in 2004 for Bon Reve, and in 2009 for Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The band earned yet another nomination in 2011 for Grand Isle. At the 2013 Grammy Awards, Steve Riley was awarded the Best Regional Roots Music Album for his work with The Band Courtbouillon, which includes local favorites Wayne Toups, Wilson Savoy, and bassist Eric Frey.

You can check out Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys on the Cajun Creole Stage both days of the festival.
