The Start of The Rotary Club

The Rotary Club has a long history of service to their local communities. They are also known for providing humanitarian services world-wide. Rotary began in 1905 with four members and the headquarters is in Evanston, Illinois. The name “Rotary” was chosen because their original meetings rotated from one office to another. The club became so popular and grew so fast that first year it could no longer rotate its meetings. They then had to settle on one place to meet.

Our local club, The Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise began it charter in 1986 with twenty-five members. Ever since then, it has grown and supported the Simi Valley area by sponsoring events like the Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Festival. It’s also involved in golfing events, walks/runs, annual dinners, firework shows, blood drives, and many other events.

The money that is raised from Rotarian efforts supports children’ charities along with helping to create programs for the senior citizens, the mentally disadvantaged and the physically disadvantaged. They helped fund the “Welcome to Simi Valley” sign as well, making sure the sign is properly maintained and attractive. They have donated bicycles, helped feed the homeless, and helped remodel the library’s community room.

The Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise has been hosting the event now known as the Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Festival since 1988. If you want to learn more about the Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Festival or have any comments, contact us.
