Learn How You Can Keep Your Kids Mentally Engaged This Summer

Try out these suggestions to help your kids have a productive summer.

Your kids don’t have to stop learning just because school is out for the summer.  In fact, there are several things that you can do to keep your children mentally engaged this summer break.  Here are some of the suggestions that you should try.

Encourage Reading

One way to set your kids up for success this summer is by instilling a love of reading in them.  You can do this by taking your kids on weekly trips to the library where they can pick out any book they want to read.  If your child needs a little more motivation, then consider rewarding them every time they accomplish a new reading goal.  For instance, you could offer them a small present or treat every time they complete a new book this summer.

Introduce Educational Games

Nowadays, many children spend their free time playing online or video games.  However, these games very rarely offer any educational benefits.  This is why you should encourage your child to play more educational games, such as those that require strategic thinking or problem-solving skills.  As many educational games now come in familiar digital formats, this may make it easier to entice your children to play.

Sign Up for Summer Classes or Camps

Finally, you can continue your child’s education by signing them up for academic classes or camps during the summer months.  Just be careful that you do not overcrowd their schedule.  Summer is a time of fun and your child should still have free time to just enjoy being a kid.

These are some of the things that you can do to keep your children mentally engaged this summer.  Looking for another way to broaden your child’s horizons?  Then make sure you mark your calendar for the next Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival.  In summer of 2019, Simi Valley will come alive with Cajun music and food, zydeco music, blues music, a Mardi Gras parade, zydeco dance lessons, and more!  To learn more about this exciting local event, contact Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival today.
