Mardi Gras celebrations throughout Los Angeles area

As many prepare to travel to New Orleans for this year’s Mardi Gras celebration, Los Angeles area residents are making plans to enjoy the many local Fat Tuesday-themed events. Mardi Gras is March 4, 2014 and marks the day when many celebrate and enjoy all the food they can eat before the long Lenten season.

There are many different roots behind the Mardi Gras celebration, including related celebrations that date back to medieval Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. Just about every country and many religious organizations have Mardi Gras traditions and celebrations. Popular Mardi Gras celebrations include masquerade parties where guests wear masks and costumes. Other celebration activities include dancing, parades, competitions and other social gatherings.

Local Los Angeles Mardi Gras events include:

  • March 1: The Long Beach Carnivale will be held outside the Long Beach Aquarium starting at 11 a.m.
  • March 1: Masquerade VIP Dinner and Concert with Floyd & the Flyboys at the loft above Shenanigan’s in Shoreline Village at noon.
