Recommended Louisiana Zydeco Bands to Listen To

Zydeco and Cajun music are a way of life in Louisiana, just like their spicy food. Unique to Louisiana, zydeco music is an energetic blend of Blues, Cajun music, and Rhythm and Blues. Local songwriters and performers combine a variety of styles and cultural elements. Some of the most popular and beloved zydeco bands and artists in Louisiana include:

Rosie Ledet – An American Creole zydeco accordion player and singer, Rosie was raised in rural Lousiana, and is known for her sultry and suggestive lyrics. She records and tours with her band, The Zydeco Playboys.

BeauSoleil – Based in Lafayette, Louisiana, BeauSoleil performs traditional and original Creole and Cajun-inspired folk tunes, and has a repertoire spanning hundreds of zydeco, Cajun and Creole songs. Their traditional Louisiana music won them a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Music in 1997 for their album, L’Amour Ou La Folie.

Geno Delafose — Gene is a new generation zydeco accordion player and singer. Born in Eunice, Louisiana, he plays and records with his band, French Rockin’ Boogie, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2007.

Nathan Williams – Williams, born in St. Martinville, Louisiana, fronts his popular band, the Zydeco Cha Chas. A favorite at the Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival in 2012, the Zydeco Cha Chas are a family act – brother Dennis plays guitar, Nathan Jr. plays keyboard and cousin Mark hits the rubboard.
